SEMINAR ON EMERGING BANKING SECTOR
Under the 3IP(Institute Industry Interaction) program of TCG which is focused to make students aware of real-time industry practices, TCG had invited Mr. Mohit Bansal, Regional Head of Birla Asset Management Company as a key-speaker to address our students. He shared his vast experience in the finance industry and threw light on the challenges of the industry. Mutual Funds and other tools of getting financial security for the future were discussed. It was a very interactive session and the students gained some vital insights for their career in Finance.

Live-Project in association with MIA
Live-Projects have always been of prime focus at The Corporate Gurus, to keep its students in touch with the real-world industry practices. The Research Wing of The Corporate Gurus has been awarded a real time research project by the Mohali Industry Association to undertake a diagnostic study for the formation of an advanced Machining Cluster in the region. The students of the The Corporate Gurus are actively involved along with faculty in this challenging endeavour. A 3-day exercise for collection of primary data was organized from 19 Oct.2011 to 21 Oct. 2011 in the industrial areas of Mohali - Phase VII,VIII and Phase IX where the students interacted with the prominent industrialists of the region to get vital insights and information required.

SPORTS DAY
To ensure the complete development of our students and to inculcate qualities like endurance, focus and team-spirit among them, extra-curricular activities have been an inherent part of TCG’s DNA. Following the same philosophy, a day-long sports event was organized by the students themselves. All students participated enthusiastically, irrespective of the semester to which they belonged. The games chosen were badminton ,Chess and Carom. Deep Chand (III Sem )was winner in the Badminton while Raman (Sem III)defeated everyone in the chess. The carom match ended in a tie. Overall it was a great learning experience for all the students of the TCG as they had observed practically issues like conflict-management and time -management.

CII?s Blue Ocean Workshop
A 2-day workshop on ideas and innovation was organized by CII at campus of The Corporate Gurus of Business for MBA students. The aim of the workshop was to develop the creative thinking skills by making the students participate in a contest where that had to generate workable ideas in terms of products or services which had the potential of being game-changer in future. Ms.Navita of Yi NET conducted the workshop for 2 days . In addition to inspiring creative thinking, this seminar also sensitized the students to recognize the problems in the society at large and to understand how solution can be developed. The winners of the contest were students of SUS, Tangori who had developed the concept of a solar-tractor. They were selected for the CII Yi NET road-run to ideas.

TCG sponsors fide international rating chess tourney in chandigarh
Keeping up its promise of promoting sports in general and the game of chess in particular, as it has a close synergy with what we teach in a business school i.e. strategy, TCG sponsored the ‘1st Chandigarh Below 2200 All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2011’ which was held in Chandigarh from April 27,2011 to May 01,2011. The tournament was organized by the Chandigarh Chess Academy (CCA) under the auspices of Chandigarh Chess Association.

 Nearly 120 players from all across the country participated in this five-day extravaganza. Fifty of these players had an international FIDE rating. The total prize money of the tournament was over one lac rupees.

While our President, Sh Anurag Aggarwal and our Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ritesh Jindal were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour respectively at the Opening ceremony on April 27, the Chief Guest for the Prize Distribution Ceremony was the Hon’ble Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh Ravinder Pal Singh.

Addressing the participants, Sh Aggarwal reiterated the commitment of TCG in promoting the game of chess in the Northern region and in the Chandigarh particularly, which was becoming an important hub of chess activity in the region.

RURAL MARKETING SURVEY by TCG students

The influence of globalization and the development of the economy are visible in the rural area as well. This changing plethora of consumer behavior in the rural segment provides immense opportunity to marketers. Today we observe that the big organized players as well as the local regional players are eying on the shopping basket of this simpleton so to say. This adds to the opportunities to understand & serve this market.

Marketing today has changed the dynamics of the business. As the consumers are getting informative, the business is becoming competitive day-by-day. Marketers are seeking fresher challenges everyday and are looking to increase their realm. The urban consumer has been coddled till now but this market is shrinking, prompting the marketer to now explore the rural consumers, which promises a huge potential. The market has enough scale to offer, and enough desire to consume. The consumer in the Indian hinterland is ready and waiting to be served More..

Talk on Insurance Industry

Taking the 3ip program forward a talk was organized on the insurance sector and the elements that govern it. The key resource persons were Mr. Arun Mahajan, Area Manager, Religare Finvest Ltd. and Mr. Karan, Aegon Religare Ltd. They addressed the students of the various insurance products available in the market today. Speaking of the two major types of insurances – life and general, Mr. Mahajan spoke of his experiences in the same and how challenging the industry was and the key elements that needed to be kept in mind while selling these instruments. Mr. Karan gave an overview of the key selling skills that a salesperson should possess – they being product knowledge, discipline, and communication skills. Giving tips of the subtle points that a sales person should observe he prophesied the understanding of customer needs before making a product offer.

Workshop of Stock-market Analysis

As part of the 3ip program a workshop on Stock Market Analysis was conducted at the campus where Mr. Lalit Batra, Cluster Head, HDFC Bank was the key resource person. The students were assigned groups and a particular sector as well as an organization. After being given the basics of stock market analysis they used primary as well as secondary data to analyse the organization for stock investment. They also monitored the specific stok over a perio of a month and came up with their presentations, which were presented at the workshop. Mr. Lalit Batra and his team from HDFC Bank evaluated the presentation of the students and elucidated the nuances of evaluation of stocks of a company before investing in that. He also explained the concept of Blue-Chip companies and how the banking industry has undergone a paradigm shift in its approach over the past decade and revealed challenges before the growing banking industry. Students had realized that banking job is full of challenges which requires multitude of skills to excel in this recession-prone industry.

Retail Activity

This activity was meant to make students aware of the real-time action taking place in the booming retail sector of India. Students visited select retail outlets at Sector 17,Chd . Four retail outlets were chosen viz. Kapsons, Capital Book Depot, Metro, and Weldon Opticals to analyze visual merchandizing, store atmospherics, space utilization besides customer profiling and footfall estimation. The students later prepared a report and presented their findings and developed recommendations for improving the observed elements. This activity revealed the challenges of retail industry and proved to be an eye-opener for the students. They realized the existing competition in the market and the variables that affect it.

Seminar on Mutual Funds

Mr. Munish Sabarawal, Fund Manager, SBI Mutual Fund, Chandigarh along with his team addressed the students on Mutual Funds and the nuances of the industry. He explained the concept of wealth creation and systematic investment planning and the role of Mutual Funds in the same. He also spoke of the career choices in the finance sector and the requisite certifications that would be required to give the students an edge over others. A well developed booklet on the elements of Mutual funds was also distributed to the students

Ozone Day Celebration and Vanmahotsav
Key Personnel : Mr Rahul Gupta, Founder and President of Gobal E-Concern

Mr Rahul Gupta spoke about Ozone layer and effects of its depletion on environment. He showed many videos related to environment. He also enlightened the students about the difference between Entrepreneur and Social Entrepreneur. Social Entrepreneur are the change agents for the social environment, who create sustainable organisation and create betterment of the society at large. He enlightened students about social environment which will become the biggest industry on planet in future, leaving IT and other sectors behind. The students made charts on Social Business Venture (SBV), where he then spoke of Aarvind Eye Hospital, the biggest eye hospital of India that is an operating example of the Social Business Venture.

Seminar on Knowledge Management
Key Personnel : Dr Harmeet Singh, Financial Controller of NIPER

In this seminar, Dr Harmeet singh spoke about Knowledge Management, encrypting knowledge that is a practiced in most organisation but seldom written down. He also taught students about types of knowledge – Explicit and Implicit Knowledge and Tacit Knowledge, which is stored in the minds of the people. The importance of social networking which is a new trend that is catching up, was also taught to the students.

Workshop on Personality Development
Mr Sohan Chandel gave students the tips for developing their personality. He explained the importance of developing personality in an organisation.. The new batch was given the personality test so that they may start working upon their personality traits which are required in an organisation. He also did burning theory with students. In that activity, he made students to write out the things which they cannot do or unable to do.For example one cannot address public confidently, one cannot say no to others to name as few.Then he asked the students to burn them or to bury them so as to make them feel that nothing is impossible in this world.It’s only the perception of an individual that he is unable to do that particular thing.

Fast Track brands
A market survey was conducted by the students to understand the retail and branding strategies that are adopted by retailers and organizations today. Students were divided into 4 groups. They were told to gather in Sec-17, Chandigarh. Students enlisted all the brands visible in the market, their competitors and tag lines by visiting in various showrooms. The students were required to tabulate other information like USP of the brand they enlisted, country of the brand using internet.

Yoga Sessions 
The aim of the activity was to distress the student and to tell them the importance of yoga. The yoga class was conducted in the morning. Mr. Deepak Joshi took the class in which he told students about the common mistakes people make while doing yoga, the precautions that should be taken while doing yoga.

‘3 idiots’ movie was shown to the students to tell them the importance of practical application of the knowledge. Students were made to analyze the movie and make a review of the movie based on their analysis.

Dining Etiquettes Workshop 
A formal lunch was organized by the students because informal interviews are a trend catching up and even various corporate meetings are now shifting to the dinner table. The motive of this lunch was to make students aware of all dining etiquettes. All the student and faculty had lunch together. Students learnt how to be comfortable in a team lunch and mannerism at dining table. All the students were asked to make arrangements within limited time frame so as to inculcate time management skills and event management basics. The lunch was a refreshing experience for every student as they got a break from routine classroom environment. All worked as a team and demonstrated a spirit of professionalism. The menu was decided and organized by students themselves. The dinning table was organized by Kamalpreet and Ramandeep.

Sports activity was organized on 19th and 20th March. This was first sports activity in our collage. This was an indoor activity which included Badminton Premier League and Chess Premier League. All the students participated in sports activity. Sports activity was organized by sports club (Prince Prasher and Jagdeep Singh).

Survey on Farmers (Ecological Issue Identification) 
A survey of farmers of nearby villages of Banur was taken by students to know about their methods of farming and the problems they are facing in agriculture. 4 groups consisting of three students each were made to visit different villages. The village they visited was Basma, Ghodman Kalan, Mohri Kalan and Kheri Gurna. The students prepared a questionnaire in order to get more knowledge about agriculture and related problems they are facing so that a proper action plan can be made to help them by any means. The main problems faced by them were shortage of electricity, water and scattered land.

Blood donation and Free Medical Check-up Camp
This camp was organized in the campus of The Corporate Gurus School of Business in association with Gyan Sagar Medical College. The purpose of the camp was to serve the society and help the poor people. Many people came from nearby villages to donate blood and for medical check up. The college students and faculty also donated blood.

In this activity students were divided into groups to represent the assigned country. They were asked to represent that respective country on the basis of political, cultural, economy, demography, social and geographical characteristics. They presented the same through use of model, presentation and use of extra resource. The teams were adjudged on the basis of information gathered and its presentation.

Management game and Budget review 
Management game based on team-work was given to students. They were made to play that game with minimum resources and had to manage with those only. Budget review- Mr. Ashish and Mr. Anurag Aggarwal They spoke about the budget 2010. Speaking on the different elements of the budget and its impact to society at large and the industry in specific they also enthralled the students of the process adopted in presenting the budget as well as the mandatory documents that are attached along with a budget for review.

An industrial visit to Glenmark Pharma was made so as to make students have a look on real scenario of an organization. It is a pharmaceutical company in which there are various department and students visited each department. Plant head of Glenmark Pharma gave a brief review of the working of the company. Mr. Gurpreet Uppal, Head HR dept explained the production process of medicines. The students learnt operations management of the company. Students were made to play a management game to check their management skills.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday Celebrations 
The focus was on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching which have relevance to management. Students made charts on Guru Nanak dev ji depicting their birth history and their teachings in management terms. Students prepared a skit on the theme ‘Satguru Nanak Pargatea Miti Thand jag chanan hoa’. The evaluation of charts was done and deserving students were awarded with prizes. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mr. Dev Raj Yadav, Joint Secy. and Regional Officer CBSE, Panchkula. He briefed the students on the importance of Soft Skills and Communication needs to stay ahead of competition.
